After inheriting my Mina's old Singer in May 2021, I started learning to sew in order
to repurpose clothes my grandparents had left behind. I loved giving something that they knew so intimately a new life, but I soon realized that I loved sewing
for more than just upcycling old clothes. There are so many aspects of sewing that draw me to the craft: the element of logic and reasoning required to make patterns and
put shapes together in your head; it keeps me physically engaged, and there's such a satisfaction I get from making something with my own two hands; then there's the creative
component, where I get to design and image, playing with colors, textures and figures, exploring various silhouette on the form I know best: my own body.
Inspriation
My grandmothers and my mother in particular have had a large influence on how I see fashion. My Muzzy passed on her love for glitz, glamour and anything luxurious. Whereas my Mina was more intrigued by bright colors, striking prints, and ocean motifs. I think my style is most similar to my Mom's, which is defined by her love for cashmere sweaters, tweed skirts and a pair of good leather boots.
